The Office of Academic Affairs is responsible for all aspects of the academic life of the College. From the instruction within the classroom, to research and study in Sheppard Library, from faculty professional development and research to student success in completion and graduation, Academic Affairs has a hand in all that pertains to College academics. The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs works diligently with the Administration and Faculty to fulfill the Mission of the College and provide excellent educational opportunities for students, in the classroom and in the professional workplace so that students are prepared to obtain their goals.Ìý
Through seventeen major programs of study delivered by ten academic departments housed in three schools, forty-four full-time faculty members, who are professional researchers, educators, and mentors prepare students to succeed in the challenging and constantly changing world beyond the campus. Many ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú faculty are published professionals in their academic disciplines who understand the significant role education plays in changing lives. They are dedicated to makingÌýa difference in the lives of students, in and outside of the classroom.Ìý
The William Sheppard Library, named for an illustrious alumnus of the ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú Institute in the last decade of the 19th century, remains a central hub of study and research. The staff support students in their search for materials while providing a serene and historic environment for reading, study, and reflection. The impressive facade and its six stately columns preside over and anchor the main quad of the campus. The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs ensures that all library services are provided with integrity and interest to aid the student researcher.
The Academic Success Center provides academic guidance and support for students, as well as a comfortable environment to complete class assignments and receiveÌýthe additional support that makes ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú a unique center for learning and preparation for life after College. All of the professionals in the ASC know the challenges of College life. Each of our counselors and academic specialists work with students to discern their specific needs or challenges and develop a plan of action that will enhance student success.Ìý
Additionally, the Dean of Chapel is always available to provide guidance and counsel. Regular chapel services and the broader religious life on the campus are not separated from the academic environment. This association of religious life on campus encourages students, faculty, and staff at the college to seeÌýour mission flowing from the founding initiative of Rev. Dr. Charles ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú. He and all who first supported the formation of an institute of learning for African American students in West Alabama, knew something that we still know at ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú: education empowers individuals to live successful and meaningful lives of purpose. The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs works every day to provide andÌýsupport the opportunity for learning at ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú.
